HOW TO BECOME A PILOT?

For many people, flying airplanes has always been their GOAL. Ultimately, who wouldn’t want to take to the skies and experience the world from above? If you’re among those who aspire to be a pilot, you’re at right place because there are numerous paths you can take to realize your goal.

 TYPES OF PILOTS

  • Commercial pilots: For airlines and other commercial carriers, commercial pilots operate passenger and freight aircraft.
  • Private pilots: These individuals operate aircraft for their own purposes, such as leisure or travel.
  • Military pilots: These individuals operate aircraft for the armed forces.
  • Corporate pilots: These individuals fly aircraft for companies and enterprises.
  • Flight instructors: They coach people on aircraft operation.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIRED TO BECOME A PILOT

  • Age: At least 17 years old
  • Education: Class 12th Pass with Physics and Mathematics subjects.
  • Medical: Class 2 medical certificate from a doctor approved by The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

SELECTION PROCESS

When choosing an Aviation academy, it is important to consider factors such as the cost, reputation, number of students per batch, experience of the Instructors and of course the location of the Institute.

Both study of ground subjects and flight training takes two years to finish a Pilot training program.  You can start looking for a job as a commercial pilot when you obtain your Commercial pilot license (CPL)

STEPS TO BECOME A PILOT:

  1. Pass the Class 2 medical exam of the DGCA medical examination determines whether you are fit to become a pilot. The DGCA website has a list of certified medical examiners who certify that you are medically fit.
  2. The ground Classes: You will study the theoretical side of flying during ground school classes. This will include subjects like Air Navigation, Meteorology, Aircraft Regulations, Radio Telephony and Technical General (Aircraft Systems)
  3. Flying Training: During your flying training you will gain practical knowledge of what you have learned at the ground school. Training begins with simple flying manoeuvres and procedures. Once you have cleared the requisite flying tests you will learn the more complex flying techniques.
  4. Solo Flight: You are prepared to fly solo (alone) once you’ve learned the fundamental skills and procedures and passed the tests required for commercial flying. This is a significant turning point in your pilot training. 

THE PILOT’S LICENSE 

  1. Commercial Pilot License – CPL A license to fly commercially you can fly single- and multi-engine aircraft for hire (and carry passengers on board) with this license. You need 200 hours of flight time to earn a CPL.
  2. Private Pilot’s License (PPL) – You can now fly single-engine aircraft for leisure or personal use with this initial license.
